No less than life - DCU novella, Bruce/Dick
Title: No less than life (Reference) (35,200 words)
Fandom: DCU (Silver Age, slightly tarnished)
Summary: If Dick demonstrates exactly what he's learned, Bruce will show him what he got wrong and maybe do it over again, just in case.
Pairing: Bruce/Dick
Warning: Content some readers may find disturbing. (Elaboration)
Rating: Adult.
Blame and Thanks: Te got me started. Jack, Pixie, and Katarik kept me going, and Mildred helped. Betty made me think harder about what I had done when she beta read for me, and as per normal her advice was indispensable.

Story, notes, and warnings

ETA: Only one's beta-reader can manage to write one a sequel before one has even posted. Betty wrote That Vanished Abode there Far Apart, gen, and it may or may not be what happens next, depending on one's point of view.

I liked the extra 18 pages very much! It was important to get the dildo in.
So to speak. :)

Hi, you don't know me, but I've been reading and enjoying your DCU fics over at LJ for about a month now (led there via mentions of you in Te's journal), but couldn't quite summon up the courage to properly ask if I might friend you (at LJ as well as here on IJ).
Yesterday I finally got around to reading "No Less than Life" and thought it was a good moment to make the step from secret admirer to crazy fangirl and leave a review, but the whole thing left me way to incoherent. (No that I'm any better now, but at least my vocabulary isn't reduced to the level Dick's is after half an hour in Bruce's hands.)

Okay, enough babbling, to the feedback proper: So. Damn. Hot. (And you can well take that as a belated general statement on all your fics.) Seriously made me melt in my chair. I had to get up halfway through to do laundry so my brain wouldn't burn out from overload. Only you could pull off several of the things in there (e.g. the vegetables) and not make it seem cracky but dead serious and also sexy. I think that's to a large part due to how you use Dick's self-consciousness, which generally pronounces everything that's wrong about the situation -the things he notices as odd as well as those he accepts as normal but the reader doesn't. Incredible characterisation, as always.

Compared with your other Bruce/Dick stories, however, I must say I liked the "The Only Immortality" series better. Bruce's viewpoint was incredibly fascinating and that internal struggle between his desires and his almost manic need to to keep Dick innocent and safe described therein is by now firmly part of my personal canon. (Everything just makes so much more sense this way.)
Somehow the dynamics between them in that series do a lot more for me than those in this novella, but I guess that's a matter of taste. It will definitely get just as many rereads, I promise that!

I'm very pleased that you've enjoyed my work. As for friending me, go right ahead; anything on the internet is fair game to be linked to, after all.

As to this particular piece, I'm grinning. It was certainly meant to induce incoherence, and it's good to hear that it succeeded. As for the vegetables and the sincerity with which they're deployed -- oh, stop, I'm blushing.

Dick at ---teen is a very special sort of point of view because he allows for just the sort of tricks you cite. He's quite perceptive of everything but how wrong his world truly is.

I can't reread "The Only Immortality" at all, which is probably indicative of the sorts of things you like in it. It is so very claustrophobic in its way, and there is so much flat-out denial, that it makes my head hurt to look at it. I'm proud of what I remember accomplishing in it, but oh, the wrong gets to me.

Thanks so much for writing to me! I love hearing from people who have enjoyed things I've made.

Thank you! *friends*

Yes, and I can see him freaking his girlfriends (and other people) out without even noticing. Just by telling them something he thinks is absolutely normal. *ggg*

That makes me sound sooo evil. ":-D
