An eye more bright than theirs - Vorkosigan AU, All ages Title: An eye more bright than theirs (Wm. S. Sonnet XX) (800 words) Fandom: Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series, AU from mid- The Warrior's ApprenticeSummary: Miles introduces the prospective Lady Vorkosigan to the current one, who finds Bel's attempts to walk in Barrayaran skirts lacking. Rating: All ages Spoilers: None Notes: All carla_scribbles's fault. ( Welcome to Vorkosigan House ) Current Mood: subversiveCurrent Music: A boy and a girl, they're so glued down in this world and what it means | | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 | | 11:15 pm |
When DCU fangirls discover Canadian media This all began with a discussion of Darren Nichols, as so many things do. It veered happily into a crossover between Slings & Arrows and Batman: The Animated Series and landed somewhere in the vicinity of an animated Twitch City. For those unfamiliar with Batman: The Animated Series, visual aids are provided so you can play along at home. Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Darren Nichols: BFFs Forever | | Monday, August 4th, 2008 | | 3:40 pm |
Inclusively players - Slings & Arrows story, Geoffrey & Darren's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Title: Inclusively players (15,000 words) Fandom: Slings & Arrows (minor spoiler for s1) Summary: Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, both staged by and starring Darren Nichols and Geoffrey Tennant, March 3-8, 1981. Call 555-3954 or visit the university box office for ticket information. Rating: Adult Pairing: Geoffrey/Darren Notes: Thanks to carla_scribbles and goluxexmachina for listening, and sageness and giglet for beta reading. Most of the many lines which are not mine come from the play being produced in this story, and are borrowed out of affection and respect for the work. Likewise, the main characters are not mine, and I employ them in a similar spirit without expectation of more payment than words from my readers, letting me know what they thought of the piece. Inclusively players Current Mood: heads.Current Music: Maidens aspiring to godheads -- and vice versa | | Monday, July 28th, 2008 | | 9:57 am |
Fannish drift, indeed So, has anyone written that threesome for Twitch City?
Someone must have. Come on, internet, prove rule #34.
I can't write it next; I'm afraid Curtis would come out sounding like Darren Nichols, and that's just not right.
Current Mood: wistful Current Music: Fluffy's Master Plan for World Domination | | Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 | | 3:42 pm |
I've been posting Slings & Arrows stories (and one DCU/dS crossover) They're over on my livejournal, and I keep forgetting to announce them here because it doesn't seem as though anyone's reading them over here. But, for the sake of completeness, this is what I've been up to lately. Title: Travelled on his looksFandom: due South/DCU Summary: For reasons that do not need exploring at this juncture, Benton Fraser is on a rooftop in Blüdhaven, New Jersey, a city which Ray describes as having "all the charm of a pig farm in July without the damn bacon." Characters: Fraser, Ray K., Dick Grayson, Tim Drake Rating: All ages (some cursing) Notes: For Jack, because there are only so many characters who crossdress for justice, and they ought to have a chance to commiserate now and then -- although this is not one of those chances either. Thanks to sageness for beta reading. Title: Un-, sub-, or supernatural forcesFandom: Slings & Arrows (no spoilers) Summary: Geoffrey Tennant and Darren Nichols are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, or vice versa. Rating: All ages Note: likethesun2 said, "One of my favorite things about this fandom is it gives you such free rein for theatrical self-indulgence. Have an obsession with a play? Cast Geoffrey Tennant as one of the characters!" She was not wrong. Title: All thee Dysk's a StageFandom: Slings & Arrows / Discworld (Wyrd Sisters; any Unseen University novel) Summary: The Librarian is part of Darren Nichols' Art. Rating: All ages Note: I started it by mentioning the other Canadiana/Discworld story I'm writing (currently in progress) to Jamjar. She got me off on a tangent by mentioning Geoffrey et al. at the Dysk. Instead of writing Geoffrey and Tomjon's passionate relationship, I wrote this. Title: Pawn their experience (12,000 words) Fandom: Slings & Arrows (begins 15 years before the show, no spoilers) Summary: Due to a childhood spent in eight different cities and a career in which being on tour equated naturally with getting paid, Geoffrey's proprietary interest in his living space was approximately equal to the average fruit fly's sense of maternal pride. Rating: Adult Pairing: Predominantly Geoffrey/Oliver, Geoffrey/OFC, Geoffrey/Ellen Notes: Thanks to Carla, Jack, and Adri for hand-holding, and to Epigone, Jam, and Sage for beta-reading. Title: Sore labour's bathFandom: Slings & Arrows (mid-season 2) Summary: Anna is getting better at subtle hints. Rating: All ages Notes: For sisterofdream, who types faster than me and is fond of Anna. Title: A foolish wit (3900 words) Fandom: Slings & Arrows (spoilers for s3) Summary: Sloan doesn't know a lot about the theatre, but he sure as hell knows more about real life than the dead guy who's been talking to him lately. Rating: Sloan enjoys using the F-word. Notes: Adri suggested this collaboration. She and Carla cheered me on while I wrote. Mme. Bahorel beta read it. All remaining errors and misapprehensions are mine. Disclaimer: None of these characters are mine and I make no profit from this story. Current Mood: adriftCurrent Music: Buck up, you melancholy Dane | | Thursday, June 19th, 2008 | | 8:52 pm |
Five Musicals Never Produced in New Burbage - Slings & Arrows story Title: Five Musicals Never Produced in New Burbage Fandom: Slings & Arrows Summary: The mandate of the New Burbage Festival is to present Canadian culture &c. This is all well and good until one allows certain directors into the theatre, or, in some cases, the town limits. Presented in order of publication. Rating: All ages Pairings: None Notes: For likethesun2. Thanks to Carla and Sage for listening and pointing me in the right direction, respectively. Five Musicals Never Produced in New Burbage Current Mood: gotta danceCurrent Music: I'm not much of a man by the light of day | | Monday, June 16th, 2008 | | 6:01 am |
Too sharp in sweetness - Slings & Arrows story, Adult Title: Too sharp in sweetness (7300 words) Fandom: Slings & Arrows (Pre-S1) Summary: Anyone who doesn't love Geoffrey has no eyes, no ears, and no damned soul, but it's one thing to love him the way the audience does or the way the young company does, and it's another thing entirely to love him the way Oliver most certainly does. Pairings: Geoffrey, Ellen, and Oliver in assorted combinations Rating: Adult Notes: Thanks to Carla and sageness for listening and making me believe I could do this, to Epigone for a careful beta-reading, and to brown_betty for making sure that I didn't commit gross cultural crimes against Canada. Too sharp in sweetness Current Mood: enamoredCurrent Music: You're driving poor Ophelia insane, so shut up, you rogue and peasant | | Sunday, June 1st, 2008 | | 4:39 pm |
No fretful orchid - due South story, Fraser/RayK Title: No fretful orchid ( Reference) (6800 words) Fandom: due South (S3/S4, no spoilers for specific episodes) Summary: The aphrodisiacal qualities of various forms of Polynesian orchids have been mentioned in the botanical journals. Rating: Adult Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, mentions of others Notes: sageness beta read this for me in all of its happily cliché glory. All remaining mistakes and omissions are mine. Carla and Jack listened and cheered as I wrote it and made sure that I included all the important parts. ( The orchid on Francesca's desk is clearly the source of the Smell, wholly deserving of the capital letter, that hangs over the bullpen. ) Current Mood: floridCurrent Music: Your face reminds me of a flower | | Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 | | 6:21 am |
But they do square - DCU story, Bruce/Tim Title: But they do square (1400 words) Fandom: DCU (Sins of Youth) Summary: Tim supposes that were he a different person, he would find the opportunities afforded by sudden adulthood intriguing. Pairing: Tim/Bruce Warning: Content some readers may find disturbing. Rating: Adult Notes: For Te, as such things tend to be. Beta read by Sage. ( Sins of Youth, i. e. that story where the Justice League turns into teenagers and the Teen Titans turn into adults ) Current Mood: for mature audiencesCurrent Music: You act like you're fourteen years old | | Saturday, May 24th, 2008 | | 12:30 pm |
Will you still feed me - DCU drabble Title: Will you still feed me (100 words) Fandom: DCU Summary: "Oh, *Batman,* you're so *big* --" Pairing: [redacted, not chan] Rating: Adult Notes: For Jack, who asked for exactly this pairing. ( Oh, *Batman,* you're so *big* -- ) Current Mood: marriedCurrent Music: Doing the garden, digging the weeds, who could ask for more? | | Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 | | 7:36 pm |
How to tell when you're over that new canon When a massive Spoiler (very recent DCU) happens that retcons something you've spent significant brain time denying, and your response is not, "Oh, yay!" but rather, "That wasn't what I really wanted," it's a sign. Am I over the old canon? No. But I have no squee at all for this, and feel rather like someone looking into an empty cookie jar, searching for what should be there but has been eaten long since. Current Mood: still you are not satisfiedCurrent Music: And I dug right down to the bottom of my soul | | Monday, May 19th, 2008 | | 9:44 pm |
I'd like to propose a toast If you, dear reader, are familiar with both due South and Company, please remind me why no one should vid the former to "The Ladies Who Lunch." I rather desperately want to, and heaven knows, when it comes to video, I've all the timing of a moose on rollerskates. Instead of learning how to vid, I am going to go back to being in love with the only method of purling I have ever loved. Current Mood: too busy to knowCurrent Music: Look into their eyes and you'll see what they know -- everybody dies | | Sunday, May 18th, 2008 | | 9:42 pm |
Chiromancy - DCU story Title: Chiromancy (600 words) Fandom: DCU (Pre-Infinite Crisis) Summary: Oracle's derisive snort is just as ugly a sound as Matches' vowels. Rating: Unsavory. Warning: Plaid. Notes: For thete1. ( Just wanted to chat, sweet thing. ) Current Mood: flirtatiousCurrent Music: 867-5309 | | Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 | | 9:08 pm |
On watching due South I paused partway through season 2 and dipped a toe into 3x01 just out of unrelenting curiosity.
Fraser has two Rays as incontrovertibly as Dick has two daddies, and if you don't agree, I'm too busy beaming like a moron to argue, so don't bother telling me so.
Also, I love Frannie with every bit of my heart. | | Monday, April 28th, 2008 | | 7:01 pm |
Drabble Trade (Smut or Gen) Write me 100 words of something and let me know what you'd like me to write you in return, and there will be stories and rejoicing. I prefer pairings, character suggestions, or "What if..." style prompts to the sort with three words or a quotation.
Fandoms: DCU, Doctor Who (Seven, audios-Eight, Nine or Ten), Sarah Jane Adventures, Battlestar Galactica (2003), P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and/or Wooster, Sarah Monette's Mélusine, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, William Finn musicals, Horatio Hornblower, Good Omens, most MGM musicals, any Sondheim musical except 'Pacific Overtures,' Pamela Dean's Tam Lin, Elizabeth Moon's Heris Serrano books, Lois McMaster Bujold except The Sharing Knife, and assorted other things; check my userinfo and ask, but if I've talked about it, I'll probably give it a go. | | Friday, April 18th, 2008 | | 5:27 pm |
Jeeves's Particular Touch - Jeeves/Wooster story Title: Jeeves's Particular Touch Fandom: P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster Summary: I reckoned that a good stimulation of the material fibers might produce some good effect, or at least that Jeeves would have an inkling of its positive nature. Rating: Adult Pairing: Reginald Jeeves/Bertram Wooster Notes: I convinced Te to watch Jeeves and Wooster, which made her both eager to read the novels and greatly desirous of something resembling the following story. Jack, Carla, and Karen encouraged me and Jamjar was kind enough to give it a right good beta-reading. ( Stimulation of the material fibers ) Current Mood: invigoratedCurrent Music: Forty-seven ginger-headed sailors | | Monday, April 14th, 2008 | | 11:53 am |
Stories that should exist, issue N If no one has written the story with Benton Fraser, Diefenbaker, Carrot Ironfoundersson, and Angua, there is something fundamentally wrong with fandom.
I have found that the more firmly I believe this sort of thing, the more likely it is that no one has written the story yet. It doesn't stop me from wanting it, though.
Current Mood: bweeeeee Current Music: After you. | | Thursday, April 10th, 2008 | | 9:28 pm |
Things I had forgotten In the acronym "DCU," forget "DC Comics Universe."
It stands for Daddy-Issues Central Universe and don't you forget it. | | Sunday, April 6th, 2008 | | 5:35 pm |
And the party started, at least in this journal My LJ account has expired, so I'll be here more often than not. | | Monday, March 31st, 2008 | | 4:04 pm |
The cake is a lie It was not nice of my SO to say, "You're feeling useless? Try playing Portal!"
He swears that there was at least one point at which I was glaring at the screen and I exclaimed, "You know, it would be really great if I could just teleport. ...oh."
